Hawaiian shirts, also known as Aloha shirts, are named for their origins. Though the exact story behind today’s famous Hawaiian shirts is unclear, it is thought by many that they originated in the 1920s or ‘30s in a Hawaiian dry goods store, where a seamstress began making shirts from Japanese kimono fabric. Upon being embraced by both locals and tourists, the design became a hit worldwide and is still trending, even in 2021. Hawaiian shirts are also a popular feature at many ‘bad’ or ‘shit’ shirt nights thanks to their bright design and bold patterning.
